Prabu is an experienced clinical psychologist who is passionate about supporting both individuals and families. He has provided expertise in inpatient and outpatient hospital settings, both public and private. His experience has extended across the lifespan, having worked closely with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Prabus early work in non-government organisations involved supporting individuals with complex mental health needs transition from psychiatric facilities into the community. Prabu enjoys working with clients in private practice. He has experience working with children, adolescents and adults presenting with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, stress, interpersonal difficulties, anger management and chronic pain. He has also supported individuals, parents and families in the transition to parenthood or as the navigate through life transitions and stressors.
Following undergraduate studies in psychology at Macquarie University, Prabu completed Masters degrees in both Counselling and Clinical
Psychology at the Australian College of Applied Psychology. He also completed training in couples and family therapy at the Australian
Institute for Relationship Studies. Prabu engages in regular professional development. Prabu is a clinical supervisor and a member of the
Australian Psychological Society.
Prabu has engaged in numerous volunteer opportunities in Australia including telephone counselling at Lifeline. Over his career Prabu has supported those from disadvantaged as well as culturally and linguistically diverse communities. He has participated in charitable causes related to homeless and disadvantaged communities in both Australia and India.
Prabu is passionate about early intervention as well as areas related to improving children’s safety, which directed his research into child sexual abuse and ways to minimise risk. He has also conducted research into online safety as well as Internet/gaming related problems. He is particularly experienced in assessing and treating problem behaviours as well as conditions like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Prabu offers a warm, compassionate, and individualised approach that ensures clients are provided the best level of care which meets their needs. He works collaboratively and holistically with doctors and other mental health professionals. Prabu uses a range of evidence-based treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Mindfulness. Through an integrative approach, clients are supported and empowered to reach their potential.
