Gottman Method Couples Therapy Online



We use the Gottman approach when providing online relationship therapy to couples. Gottman Method Couples Therapy draws on the knowledge of 40 years of research and clinical practice to help couples break through barriers, and improve the level of connection, intimacy and understanding within their relationships. Online Gotttman Method Couples Therapy is structured, evidence-based, and goal-oriented. The interventions used in online relationship counselling were developed as a result of research data, from a study conducted by Dr Gottman on more than 3000 couples.

• Increase closeness, respect and affection
• Increase understanding between partners
• Break through and resolve conflict, when partners feel stuck
• Keep calm when discussing conflict.

Getting to Know You and Your Relationship



The Gottman method involves a 3 part assessment process. The online relationship assessment process is designed to get a clear picture of your relationship including the strengths and issues you bring into therapy as well as understanding each of you as individuals. Before your first session you will be asked to complete an online set of questions about your relationship and your individual histories.

SESSION 1: UNDERSTANDING YOUR RELATIONSHIP



In your first online couples therapy session, you and your partner will have the opportunity to share what has brought you to couples therapy and we will discuss the history of your relationship.

SESSION 2 AND 3: UNDERSTANDING YOU AND YOUR PARTNER AS INDIVIDUALS



Session 2 and 3 are conducted as individual online therapy sessions and provide an opportunity to get to know you as an individual and develop an understanding of how your background and past experiences influence your current experience of your relationship.

SESSION 4: UNDERSTANDING THE STRENGTHS OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP AND AREAS YOU WANT TO CHANGE



In session 4 your online psychologist will share the understanding they have gained throughout the assessment process and each member of the couple shares how this summary compares with their own experience of the relationship. You will discuss potential goals for online couples counselling that arise from this assessment and work together to develop a plan forward


Comprehensive Assessment Process



In our experience couples are usually eager to complete the assessment process quickly and begin working on their relationship. Your assessment process will all be completed on the same day and you will begin therapy the following week.


Your assessment will look something like this:

9:00 - 10:05 am Assessment Session 1 - Couple Session
10:15 - 11:20 am Assessment Session 2 - Partner 1
11:30 - 12:35 pm Assessment Session 3 - Partner 2
1:05 - 2:10 pm Assessment Session 4- Couple Session Feedback and Treatment Planning


When you book in for your online couples therapy assessment please also book 2 consecutive weekly online couples therapy treatment sessions (80 mins). At times our calendar can be booked 6 weeks to 2 months in advance, it is important to us that you are not left waiting for an appointment.
